Fine porcelain and pottery is one of the most collected items in the world. Connoisseurs appreciate the fine lines and exquisite design applications that are found on collection of pottery. Traditionally most people think that the finer pieces and name brands of quality pottery are foreign in scope. However, that is not the case of Haeger Pottery.
Even though the founder was a German immigrant, the company got its start along the Fox River in Illinois. David Haeger began his career in this country as an employee of the Dundee Brickyard that was on the Fox River. In 1871, he became a part owner and eventual owner. It was not until later that they added the making of tiles to their production line. His company played a huge part in the re-building of Chicago after the great Chicago Fire of 1871. Into the 1900’s the company started the making of other works of porcelain. They did luncheon ware, glassware and tea ware. In the 30’s, at the Chicago’s World Fair, Haeger made itself known again by having a functioning ceramic factory which displayed modes of production...both past and present. Also during 1934, the company began a ling of work’s entitled Royal Haeger, which was a specialized line of art ware. Among some of its remarkable pieces of art are the Black Panther, a sleek design of a cat on the prowl and the ferocious Red Bull. These characteristic Haeger productions highlight the very exquisite lines that Haeger is famous for. Bu the 1960’s the company line had increased to be distinctive with its Royal Haeger dinnerware, vases, lamps and animal figurines. This artware has grown to be one of the most sought after collector items in the porcelain realm to date.
Haeger designs are a contribution to a culture that takes great pleasure in its works of art that capture the eye and the imagination. David Haeger was a pioneer in his field...a class of people that sought to enhance the lives of people by creating esthetic wonders. He broadened the scope of what porcelain designs could contribute to the artistic world. |
